Systems Administrator
Cyber Media provide a range of world-class Web solutions including Web site design and development, content management systems, bespoke database design and development, tailored applications and managed Linux and Windows hosting. Our friendly and growing team is based in modern offices located in Stafford.
Role description:
The role comprises support and development of the company’s internal systems and hosting offerings (Windows and Linux based) and direct support to the clients that use them.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the suitable candidate will be expected to “hit the ground running” and:
- Be confident administering and upgrading Windows and Linux servers (Redhat Enterprise 3 and 4) locally and remotely and supporting their users
- Be confident in the day-to-day configuration, maintenance and running of web sites and related Web server components such as Apache, IIS, BIND, Sendmail, Qmail, Mailenable, MySQL and MS SQL
- Have an in depth knowledge of how the main internet protocols and systems such as DNS, http(s), SMTP and FTP work, and be able to use appropriate command line utilities to diagnose faults in their operation
- Be prepared to work offsite occasionally, respond to occasional text alerts and be prepared to work outside normal office hours to perform upgrades to production systems
- Be confident with installing, upgrading and maintaining core web technologies such as PHP, ColdFusion, ASP.NET, MS SQL and MySQL in Windows and Linux production environments with minimal downtime
- Have knowledge of scripting languages, such as Perl that can be used to automate server maintenance tasks
- Be knowledgeable in security best practices such as server auditing, hardening, patching and firewall configuration
In addition to the above mandatory requirements, the following attributes will be considered favourably:
- Experience in installing, configuring and maintaining Cisco switches and PIX firewalls
- Experience of installing, using and upgrading Plesk control panel in Windows and Linux environments
- Experience of producing architecture diagrams and server configuration documentation
Demonstration of aptitude and experience with reference to specific examples that amount to at least two years of commercial experience is desirable.

- Likely to be of degree calibre, and will have a flexible open-minded approach in conjunction with a willingness to tackle a variety of challenges in an enthusiastic and professional manner. A recent graduate, with very strong talent and aptitude and some commercial experience may be suitable for the position
- Able to work equally well as part of a team or on individual projects, have an analytical mind, good memory and the ability to learn quickly
- Have the motivation and ability to self manage time to constantly progress support issues and at the same time progress the ongoing development of our systems and offerings
- Reliable, diligent and 100% trustworthy
- Own transport is required
