East Staffordshire Borough Council’s website (www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk ) has been ranked 7th out of 463 Local Authorities in a public sector survey. This research was compiled by the Public Sector Forum and was based on how the websites conformed to website accessibility standards. Dominic Tennant, Website Manager, said: “In October this year, the Disability Discrimination Act was introduced to end discrimination that many people face. In preparation, at Outreach centres we consulted local groups to find out what would be desired to make our website more accessible. The major outcome of these events highlighted that it would be desirable to have the ability to change text colour and size.” An internationally recognised interpretation of website guidelines is known as ‘Bobby’. East Staffordshire Borough Council website now complies with Bobby’s highest level of accessibility and has gained their AAA recognition following work with Cyber Media Solutions.
