ICG Professional Mentoring Scheme Launch

Monday, June 12, 2006

As an eager supporter of Mentoring, both in a professional context and for life, Cyber Media’s sales manager Roger Fairhead was invited to talk about his experiences in a recent Institute of Career Guidance, North West Regional Event that took place at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) on Friday 9th June.

The event was started with Kieran Gordon, ICG Vice President and Chief Executive Connexions Greater Merseyside, who talked about the shape of guidance at the moment and challenges for the future.  Chris Evans, ICG Executive Director was next up to speak; he reported on what the ICG has been doing politically over the last few months and then introduced the ICG Professional Mentoring Scheme.  Then Roger took the stand.

Addressing ICG Members and QCG students from MMU Roger explained what the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation is all about and what they are trying to achieve with the Peer Mentoring project, shared some of his experiences from an established mentoring programme in North Staffs called Eavesdrop, and concluded with quotes from pupils who have been helped by Eavesdrop.

The message was very significant and very clear: mentoring programs work and can affect a person’s life in a very positive way, through all stages of their lives.

Roger is sales manager for Cyber Media Solutions who are currently developing new Web sites for (amongst others) the Greater Merseyside Connexions Partnership and the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. They are also developing a Web site for the “Peer Mentoring pilot project” also for the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation.

Roger is a qualified Lecturer and a member of the ICG, and is also chair of a local charity that runs a very successful mentoring programme in North Staffordshire.
