Revolutionary platform to bring parks into the digital age and promote their use as great assets for healthy, active lifestyles
In the digital age most of us check out a destination online before a visit. But the digital profile of parks often lurks in a dusty corner of a council website and does little to promote the fantastic things they have to offer. We were challenged to change this.
We kicked things off with engagement activities with stakeholders including friends of parks groups and park staff. This enabled us to create a platform with excellent user journeys, which we further enhanced with bright, vibrant and fun design.
From the research undertaken we devised a landing page wizard for people to identify their individual needs, plus a nifty filter system for tweaking matches on-the-fly.
ParksHerts was developed using Cyber Media’s Audience Engagement Platform. The website seamlessly integrates with Hertfordshire County Council’s GIS system to provide users with park maps with colourful overlays, places of interest and exercise routes.
The development is also location-aware so if you arrive in a park with your smartphone, the website knows to take you straight to the park’s profile page to enable you to start exploring right away.
And it’s not just end users who benefit from innovation - we have empowered parks teams with management tools and dashboards to enable real-time comparison of park usage using infographics and gamification concepts.
ParksHerts an excellent exemplar of user-experience design, digital illustration, technical innovation and partnership working and has been nominated as a finalist in the Association for Public Service Excellence’s Annual Service Awards.
